Wake County School System Information:

I am sure there is a lack of certainty for families moving into the area concerning their school choices. Below are a few bullet points and updated information concerning the Wake County Schools from a meeting held June 14, 2012 with Superintendant Tata.

The schools with the most available seats are Capital Blvd. - EAST.

From June 29 - July 9 the system will be shut down for maintenance, new parents/enrollees will have to physically GO to WCPSS to register, no on-line resources.

If a child is on a WAIT LIST, the wait list expires on July 18 and they will be assigned to their next choice school. No wait list will exist beyond this point.  If seats open up and a newcomer comes to the area, that seat is available to them NOT the person who was NEXT on the wait list.

Reminder that BUS SERVICE is provided as long as the school is a CHOICE.

There is now a SEAT Availability Report on the Home Page for the Assignment Plan. It is updated weekly and will be a good resource for families to understand potential school options for an address. This report has only been available for 3 weeks. Check it out at:  http://www.wcpss.net/

If you are in TEMPORARY HOUSING, the school assignment is based on that address(no matter who the lease holder is). They will have the option of keeping their child in that school for the school year when they move or going to choice plan for available seat at time of move. If school is OUTSIDE of choice plan of NEW address and they grandfather in, they must provide their own transportation.

WCPSS is working with Wake Education Partnership to create a "Quality Matters Map" where you can "hover" over a school to see scores, available seats, etc. Will be in Beta mode later this summer to rollout in August, 2012.
