Entrepreneurs and preservationists are restoring the beautiful century-old storefronts of Fayette Street. This area is being transformed into a very hip, urban oasis, complete with vibrant colors, historical architectural elements and sophisticated features. These buildings are the first of a dynamic transformation that is occurring in the heart of Raleigh one renovation at a time.
The architecture of this area is interesting, boasting late 19th-century and early 20th century urban streeetscape. This upcoming year several more renovations are expected to be completed. These buildings once restored retain their character as well at their original uses. For example most buildings house a storefront at ground level, an office on the second and apartments on the third floor, just as they did in the 1880s.
The buildings on Fayette Street enjoy beautiful, authentic woodwork, expansive windows, exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings and open, airy floor plans. It is important to preserve these wonderful, historic buildings and breathe new life into them.
