You are set to purchase your new home in Raleigh, NC. Very important that you are getting the right homowners insurance coverage. Following are a few tips I received from Drew McKeithan with Allen Tate Insurance Services: Take the highest deductible you can afford- the higher the deductible, the lower the premium. Most people only file a claim every eight to ten years so you will save over time. Always ask about available discounts for: Multi-policies, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, burglar & fire alarms, deadbolt locks and fire-safe window grates, 55 years old and retired, Long-time policy holder, upgrades to plumbing, heating & electrical systems. Be sure you get enough insurance to: completely rebuild the house in the event it is destroyed by fire or other insured disaster, be able to replace everything in the house, protect your liability in case someone is injured on your property and sues you. Be sure to ask your agent if they offer additional coverage such as replacement cost for possessions, inflation-guard, etc.

Flood, earthquake and windstorm rick: Damage caused by flooding and earthquakes is not covered by standard homeowners policies. You will need to get a separate policy to cover floods and earthquakes.

After you purchase your new home be sure to properly maintain the home. Every year , there are important things you should do to reduce the chance that you will experience water damage, fire or other insured loss. Insurance does not pay for routine maintenance or damage resulting from neglect. Be sure to keep your insurance up-to-date and notify your insurance agent if you make improvement to your home, have a major purchase or lifestyle changes. Please call or email Drew McKeithan if you need homeowners insurance or have any questions.  Drew’s  Direct #: 909-582-0039 and his email: william.mckeithan@allentate.com .
